Approve the plan for construction of the South Ha Tinh – North Quang Binh region

(Quang Binh Website) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently approved a plan for construction of the South Ha Tinh – North Quang Binh region until 2030, with the aim at creating a regional economic linking space and meeting the demands for national and regional defence and security.

The South Ha Tinh – North Quang Binh region is a complex economic area

The South Ha Tinh – North Quang Binh region is defined as a complex economic area and a driving force for development of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces and the North Central Coast region, possessing huge potentials for deep water ports and heavy industry. This is an important road and sea traffic gateway for commercial exchanges with Lao neighbouring country via Cha Lo national border gate.

It also has great potential for tourism development with a lot of special values of natural landscapes and diversified and unique ethnic minority cultures. This area has an important significance to security and national defence of the country.

As planned, the whole region’s planning scale covers 611,939 hectares. Of which, natural area of the South Ha Tinh is 294,180 hectares and natural area of the North Quang Binh is 317,579 hectares.

Boundaries of planning for the South Ha Tinh and North Quang Binh region include three districts of Ha Tinh province, namely Ky Anh, Huong Khe and Cam Xuyen, and three districts and a town of Quang Binh province namely Quang Trach, Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa districts and Ba Don town.

The region's total population until 2030 is expected to reach 1.2 million people, including 550,000 urban residents.

The planned region has about 18 large towns

According to the orientation for regional space development, the area will be developed into two specific regions.

The coastal plain region will embrace Ha Tinh’s Cam Xuyen and Ky Anh districts and Quang Binh’s Quang Trach district and Ba Don town. This region will focus on developing maritime economic industries, deepwater ports, maritime and cultural tourism and fish harvest and processing.

The midland and mountainous area will consist of Ha Tinh’s Huong Khe district and Quang Binh’s Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa districts. The focus of the region is Cha Lo international border gate economic zone and urban areas of Huong Khe, Hoa Tien, Dong Le, Quy Dat and Cha Lo - Bai Dinh. The region is set to promote the minerals extraction industry, cement and building material industry, commercial services and tourism.

The South Ha Tinh - North Quang Binh will develop about 18 towns by 2030, including 10 in the South Ha Tinh and 8 in North Quang Binh.

By 2030, total land fund for industrial development of the region is expected to reach about 7,670 hectares, focusing on industrial development centers such as Vung Ang industrial center, Hon La industrial center and cement industry center. Besides, there are industrial complexes such as North Cam Xuyen, Huong Khe and Cha Lo.
