The boat racing festival on Kien Giang River is one of the old cultural activities, associated with the cultural and spiritual life of the local residents and becomes a traditional cultural character of Le Thuy people.

This is the 52th time the traditional boat racing festival on Kien Giang River has been held.

Chairman of the District People’s Committee beats drum to open the festival

The festival drew the participation of 22 male teams and 8 female teams with nearly 1,000 athletes from communes and town of Le Thuy district, including: Loc Thuy Phong Thuy, Lien Thuy, An Thuy, Xuan Thuy, Mai Thuy and Kien Giang town.

The race was divided into two groups of A and B with a total length of about 24km for male boats and 18km for female boats.

From early in the morning, thousands of local people and tourists gathered along the two banks to enjoy and cheer loudly the race teams.

After more than two hours of competition with an exciting atmosphere and solidarity spirit, the traditional boat racing festival on Kien Giang River ended successfully.

Awarding prizes to excellent teams

As a result, Loc An village (An Thuy commune) stood the whole group most, An Xa village (Loc Thuy commune) came second and third of that of Loc Thuong village (An Thuy commune).

Awarding prizes to female racing boats

Regarding the female racing boats, team of Loc An village (An Thuy commune) won the first prize, An Xa and Tuy Loc villages (Loc Thuy commune) won the second and the third respectively.

Regarding the male racing boats, the first prize was given to Tien Thiep village (Xuan Thuy commune) amd Dong Thanh (Lien Thuy commune), second prizes to Loc Ha (An Thuy commune) and third prizes to Mai Thuy (Mai Thuy commune) and Tuy Loc (Loc Thuy commune).
