In 2016, 57 new caves discovered in Phong Nha-Ke Bang

This was the result of a expedition into the park by the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park in collaboration with a group of cave experts from the British Cave Research Association in March and April of 2016. This has been the 17th expedition of the British Cave Research Association at Phong Nha - Ke Bang region since 1990.
According to the report, the expedition has mapped 57 new caves in several places with different terrain, many of the 57 caves were carefully measured and recorded for documentation purposes. The caves discovered during the trip vary in length, with some stretching over 2.5 kilometers.
A unique feature in one of the caves discovered on the trip was that it had been formed at the bottom of a massive lake, while most other grottos found at the park are products of the dissolution of limestone mountain ranges by rivers.
Among 57 newly discovered caves in Quang Binh, many caves dominates with several values of science, geology and impressive lengths, including Hoa Huong Cave with 2,876 m long, Tien 2 Cave with 2,519 m long, Bom Cave with 1,500 m long, Dinh 1 Cave with 1,430 m long, Ruc Ma Rinh 2 Cave with 1,316 m long, etc.
Especially, many caves have many beautiful stalactites that are evidence of an underground water source flowing from here to Laos there year millions years ago, such as caves of Hoa Huong, Bang, Ruc Ca Roong, Ruc Ma Rinh, Tien, Cay Sanh, etc.
The discovery of new caves has an important significance to cultural, historical and scientific values of the people and nature through each period of development.
This discovery will be a good opportunity for the tourism sector to open new products, especially cave tourism products, contributing to developing the types of adventure tourism and expedition tourism, bringing source of income for the community, locality and nation.
