Young people across the nation start military service

Ceremonies to see off newly recruited soldiers for Military Zone 7 were held on February 21 morning in various localities in Ho Chi Minh City; the southern provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Binh Thuan; and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.
Sen. Lt. Gen. Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Vietnam People’s Army attended a ceremony in HCM City’s Binh Chanh district.
At a ceremony held in Can Giuoc district of the Mekong Delta province of Long An on February 21, new recruit Nguyen Duc Thien said he felt proud to follow the path of older generations and is eager to fulfil his duty as a citizen to the motherland.
To date, 15 of the province’s localities have completed the handover of all newly conscripted soldiers to the army.
The same day, send-off ceremonies were arranged in the central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue, which are under the Military Zone 4.
In Vietnam, two-year military service is compulsory for young men aged between 18 and 25 years old, while women can volunteer.
