The Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ The Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO

(Quang Binh Portal) - On August 9, 2019, the Provincial People"s Committee held a working session with the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ The Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO led by Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to report the conservation of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park World Natural Heritage, the relation with some of international and territorial partners. Receiving and working with the delegation were Mr. Tran Cong Thuat, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People"s Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; representatives of related departments, agencies and local authorities.

According to the report of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has an area of over 123,000 hectares, including a strictly protected zone of 100,296 hectares, an ecological restoration zone of 19,619 hectares and administrative service zone of 3,411 hectares. The buffer zone covers an area of more than 220,000 hectares located in 13 communes of Minh Hoa, Bo Trach and Quang Ninh districts. In the past time; the executive committees and local authorities in the province effectively implemented forest protection, biological diversity, forest fire fighting and prevention in buffer zone communes; supported and transfered appropriate production models to gradually reduce people's pressure on heritage; simultaneoulsy, proactively conducted research and offered applications in managing and monitoring natural resources on the basics of geographic information and remote sensing systems as well as the application of many scientific themes to enhance the effectiveness of heritage conservation.

In addition; departments, agencies and local authorities in the province also strengthened to effectively coordinate and implement the tourism exploitation activities associated with the conservation and promotion of landscape values as well as international cooperation of heritage conservation and promotion. The functional forces had a good grasping of situation, timely discovered and advised the executive committees and local authorities to solve many complicated situations involved in coastal and borderland security, contributing importantly to promote the values of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park World Natural Heritage.

At the meeting, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee reported to the delegation some contents related to the results of organizing Quang Binh Cave Festival in 2019, the coordination with the functional forces of Laos in protecting borders and milestones; the maintenance of border security and orientation to strengthen and promote Quang Binh tourism image on the internet. He also suggested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ Vietnam National Commission of UNESCO continue to support the province in spreading information and orientation to implement recommendations given by the World Heritage Committee for Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park heritage values; calling for programs and projects of conservation development and research in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park; mobilizing investors to carry out investment cooperation in Quang Binh province; creating favorable opportunities for the Provincial People's Committee, the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park to attend international conferences, workshops, training programs to foster and improve the capacity for management and heritage conservation, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs highly appreciated the achievements of Quang Binh province in the implementation of the conservation of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park World Natural Heritage and in relations with international and territorial partners during the past time. He also noted that the province should continue to strengthen the relationship with Laos in protecting landborder security; promote Quang Binh tourism image through mass communication; proactively propose and participate in international training courses on improving the capacity for the promotion, protection and management of heritage values; The Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO will continue to coordinate and support Quang Binh province in organizing tourism promotion activities.
