Le Thuy district promotes poverty-alleviate movement for Van Kieu ethnic minority people
Among these ethnic groups, Van Kieu ethnic minority mainly lives in three mountainous communes of Kim Thuy, Ngan Thuy and Lam Thuy in Le Thuy district. Because of located far from the district's center, difficult roads, low cultural standards and old manners and customs, the people's life here has been changed a lot yet and overcome many difficulties. Over the past years, Quang Binh province has had many positive policies to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, improve the living standards for the ethnic minority people, contributing to promoting socio-economic development here.
Implementing the province's guideline on deleting thatched houses for poor people, helping the people develop economy, in the first six months of 2008, the district's policy bank gave a VND9.3 billion loan to poor people, deleted 161 thatched houses and temporary houses with the total money of VND1.35 billion, completed and put 463 of 513 houses into use for Van Kieu ethnic minorities. The remaining houses will continue to be completed in the three quarter of 2008. Besides, Le Thuy district provided 60 tons of rice and 1,300 cloths for Van Kien ethnic minorities in these three especially difficult communes to help them overcome difficulties and stabilize their life.
