6 dead, 2 injured as floods wash away central Viet Nam
Torrential rains brought flooding and landslides to the country's central region, killing at least six people and injuring two.
More than 6,290 houses were submerged and an electrical plant was damaged.
The National Hydro-Meteorology Forecast Centre said rivers from Quang Tri to Thua Thien Hue Provinces would continue to rise. The water levels in Quang Binh Province's rivers had reached its peak and were receding slowly.
Flash floods and landslides are likely to occur in submerged and low-lying areas from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue provinces.
Reports from Ha Tinh Province's Huong Khe District showed that the water level at Ho Ho Hydroelectricity Dam was one metre over its peak and was at risk of breaching.
About 3,000 households near the Gianh River's lower section is at risk and residents from more than 370 households were being relocated.
In Quang Binh Province, more than 8,470 houses were damaged, one fishing vessel was sunk with two people missing. Heavy downpours blocked roads in many areas and isolated Tuyen Hoa, Minh Hoa, Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts.
The floods have threatened thousands of hectares of rice fields and isolated thousands of households.
The latest figures from the central region report that four people have been killed in Ha Tinh Province, one in Quang Binh Province and one in Quang Tri Province, while two individuals were injured in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh Provinces.
