Workshop on biodiversity survey in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park

(Quang Binh Website) - On May 24, the Phong Nha - Ke Bang Region Project Management Unit (PMU) in coordination with the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park PMU held a workshop to report obtained results of biodiversity survey in PNKBNP.

Present in the workshop were representatives of non-governmental organizations, scientists, consultants, international experts and survey groups.

At the workshop, scientists and researches represented the reports of biodiversity survey results of flora and vegetation, primates, fauna of bird and fish, invertebrates, animals and primates.

According to survey results, scientists discovered 1 genus and 9 new species for science and several new record for flora of Vietnam; 58 species - groups belonging to 7 classes, 22 orders of invertebrates; 02 new scorpion species.

In addition, scientist also found 159 bird species, including 151 affirmed species and 8 temporarily recorded species; 7 primate species in the extended area and PNKB NP Region; 41 bat species belonging to 23 genera, 7 families; 212 fish species belonging to 107 genera, 38 families and 10 orders (6 species listed in the Vietnam Red Book); 19 small predator species and 2 species of culi....

These new discoveries will be supplemented in the dossier for submission to UNESCO second time for recognition of PNKB NP as a world natural heritage for biodiversity.

The workshop also focused on discussing and finding out solutions to build up an action plan on supervision of key species and groups in PNKB NP Region.
