On February 27th, at its 7th session (special session), the Quang Tri Provincial People's Council, 8th term, 2021-2026, passed a Resolution on adjusting the Quang Tri Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Accordingly, the Plan aims to build Quang Tri province into a rapidly and sustainably developing province by 2030, a locality with a dynamic economy , a safe, civilized, and happy living environment; gradually affirming its role as an important growth pole on the East-West economic corridor and the Central region, making a positive contribution to the development of the country in the era of Vietnam's national progress.
By 2050, Quang Tri aims to become a province with a dynamic and sustainable economy, primarily based on industry and services, a new growth pole in the North Central region, and one of the country's distinctive energy, logistics, and tourism centers.
Notably, Quang Tri province is orienting its spatial organization towards the formation of 3 economic corridors, 7 growth poles, and 2 sub-regions.
The three economic corridors include: the North-South economic corridor, linked to the Eastern North-South Expressway, National Highway 1A, the coastal road, and the national railway, serving as the central driving axis; the Western auxiliary North-South economic corridor, linked to the Western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, promoting forestry, renewable energy, and ensuring national defense and security; and the East-West Trans-Asian economic corridor with the Dong Ha - Lao Bao, Cha Lo, and La Lay - My Thuy axes, promoting logistics, goods transshipment, and expanding international cooperation and integration.
Seven growth poles have been identified: Hon La - Ba Don - Quang Trach; Dong Hoi - Hoan Lao; Dong Ha - Quang Tri - Cam Lo; Southeast Economic Zone; Cha Lo International Border Gate Economic Zone; Lao Bao International Border Gate Economic Zone; and La Lay International Border Gate. These poles play a pivotal role as economic, urban, and commercial nuclei, distributing development momentum harmoniously between North and South, coastal and mountainous areas, and urban and rural areas.
The development is divided into two sub-regions: the coastal plain - sea area, which is a dynamic region focusing on urbanization, industry, services, transportation infrastructure, and the marine economy; and the mountainous - border gate - western border region, which prioritizes the development of forestry, renewable energy, border gate economy, and ecotourism, while conserving resources and ensuring national defense and security.
Shaping the development space towards a multi-centered approach, with close links between corridors and growth poles, is expected to create a solid foundation for Quang Tri to make breakthroughs in the coming period, maximizing its potential and advantages, enhancing its competitiveness, and integrating more deeply into the global economy.
Regarding the urban development plan, by 2030, Quang Tri province will have 23 urban areas, including: 2 Type II urban areas (Dong Hoi, Dong Ha); and 21 Type III urban areas (Ba Don, Quang Tri, Quang Ninh, Hoan Lao, Le Thuy, Lao Bao, Quy Dat, Dong Le, Phong Nha, Viet Trung Farm, Le Ninh Farm, Ho Xa, Cua Tung, Ben Quan, Cam Lo, Gio Linh, Cua Viet, Krong Klang, Khe Sanh, Dien Sanh, Ai Tu). The urbanization rate of the entire province will reach approximately 37% by 2030.
