50 sets of martyrs’ remains repatriated from Laos

(Quang Binh Website) - A ceremony was taken place at the Cha Lo International Border Gate on May 9 to repatriate the remains of 50 Vietnamese volunteer experts and soldiers who sacrificed during the war in Laos.

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Governor of Khammouane, Mr Somchay Phetsinuan, head of Special Working Committee of Khammouane province; Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Binh, Mr Tran Tien Dung, head of Special Working Committee of Quang Binh province and leading representatives of relevant departments and localities of Vietnam and Laos.

Thanks to the close direction and wholehearted assistance of authorities as well as people of Quang Binh and Khammouane provinces, in 2012-2013 dry season, the High Command of Military Zone 4 in coordination with the search team No.589 (under the Quang Binh Provincial Military Command) has sought and removed 50 sets of remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who laid down their lives during the resistance wars against the French colonialists and US imperialists repatriated from Laos.

At the ceremony, delegates and local people laid wreaths and offered incense in memory of the experts and soldiers whose great sacrifice has contributed to strengthening the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos in general, Quang Binh and Khammouane in particular.

This is a great significant activity to express the national tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” and deep gratitude to great sacrifice of martyrs as well as contribute to tightening the special solidarity and friendship between Viet-Lao countries.

On the same day, 50 remains of martyrs were brought home at the Ba Doc Martyrs’ Cemetery.
