On the afternoon of May 13, Tuyen Hoa Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) coordinated with Cao Quang Forest Ranger Station and Tuyen Hoa Commune Police to hand over a pig-tailed macaque to the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms.

The female pig-tailed macaque, weighing about 5kg, was voluntarily handed over by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam (resident of Xuan Ha village, Tuyen Hoa commune) after discovering the monkey in his family's garden.

Realizing that this is a rare and precious wild animal that needs to be protected, Mr. Nam's family reported it to the local authorities for handling in accordance with the law.

When received, the monkey individual has stable health and normal movement. After being handed over, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park will take care of the monkey at the Rescue Center.

If after 5 days the owner cannot be identified, the functional agency will decide on the option of re-release to nature or transfer to permanent conservation.

The pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonina) is an endangered, precious and rare animal belonging to group IIB according to the regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Local authorities and functional forces recommend that people raise awareness of wildlife protection, not hunt, raise, raise, trade or illegally transport endangered and rare animal species.
