Cau Ngu Festival of Bao Ninh people

This is a traditional folk festival held annually in the middle of April (Lunar Calendar), expressing the special cultural character and faiths of fishermen and is a form to respect the career and good tradition from time immemorial.

Before organizing the main ceremonial of the Cau Ngu festival, local people carried out "le Ruoc Van" and "le Vot Bac" to call the soul of the dead on the sea for the attendance. Cau Ngu festival was solemnly organized with many traditional rites, expressing the faiths of fishermen like: "le Cau yen" to pray for peace, "le Cau tai" to pray for good fortune, "le Cheo can" and floating 200 lanterns on Nhat Le River...

Cau Ngu festival aims to express the aspiration for a peaceful life of fishermen who usually cope with the obstacles on the sea. This is also the special character of Bao Ninh trade village - Quang Binh in particular and in central region in general.

It was known that in the morning of May 10, eight boats coming from eight hamlets of Bao Ninh commune took part in the boat race on Nhat Le River. This is also an activity in the scope of the programme of Cau Ngu festival this year.
