Former volunteer youths receive saving books

16 former volunteer youths from Nghe An and Quang Binh provinces were presented with 16 saving books, worth VND 3 million each, at the third program, “The mark of youth”, by the Vietnam Former Volunteer Youths’ Association, Vietnam Television, the Online Hanoi People Newspaper, and HTV Media Joint-Stock Company, in Hanoi on October 20th.

At the program, Nguyen Anh Lien, Chairman of the Association reminisced about contributions of former female volunteer youths who sacrificed for national independence. The audience also had an opportunity to watch documentaries and enjoy songs reflecting the image of volunteer youths in wartime as well as in peacetime.

Launched for the first time in 2010, the event is an effort to help ease the pain of needy former volunteer youths, especially Agent Orange victims, the elderly, the sick and those in remote areas, and to show the traditions, “While drinking water, remember its source” and “Gratitude”, of Vietnamese people. It is also to call upon social organizations, agencies, businesses and local people to give further support to needy volunteer youths.

Also at the program, the organizing panel presented medals to sponsors for their support to former volunteer youths over the past years.

Reportedly, in the programs in 2010 and 2011, units, agencies and individuals raised over VND 8 billion for needy former volunteer youths.
