A meeting to approve buffer zone master socio-economic development plan of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park to 2020 and vision to 2030

(Quang Binh Website) - The provincial People's Committee on July 10 held a meeting to approve the buffer zone master socio-economic development plan in the context of conservation of the Phong Nha - Ke Bang (PNKB) National Park to 2020 and vision to 2030. Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Van Tuan, head of the Plan Assessment Council presided over the meeting.

Accordingly, the buffer zone master socio-economic development plan in the context of conservation of PNKB National Park to 2020 and vision to 2030 is implemented by the Project Management Board of PNKB Region Project via technical support of GIZ.

The plan's objective is to improve the livelihoods for people living in 13 buffer zone communes in PNKB National Park in 03 districts of Bo Trach, Minh Hoa and Quang Ninh. The plan is also to strengthen conservation of natural resources, ecological values and biodiversity of PNKB National Park.

With regard to the vision to 2030, the buffer zone of PNKB National Park will become an ecological buffer zone which has a close combination between conservation of natural resources in PNKB national park with forest development and protection in buffer zone; has beautiful natural landscapes; is an ideal destination of foreign and domestic tourists; and has the buffer zone's economy and society in integration with the province's economy and society.

At the meeting, participants focused on discussion on objectives to ensure livelihoods in order to reduce exploitation pressure from buffer zone local people for using natural resources as well as to make use of chances for contribution of local people participating in conservation of natural resources in the national park and its buffer zone.

Speaking at the meeting, PPC Vice Chairman Tran Van Tuan asked the Project Management Board and GIZ in coordination with relevant units to collect contributions to adjust and complete the plan for submission to the provincial People's Committee for approval as soon as possible.
