The ceremony was attended by Mr. Tran Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; Mr. Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Students and representatives of relevant agencies and units together with union members and youths.

Inauguration ceremony of construction of a sovereignty flag pole on Hon La Island

The flag pole is one of seven to be built on outpost islands across the nation by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee and the Vietnam Association of Students in collaboration with the Bank for the Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

Reaching 110 metres above sea level, the pole in Hon La will be the highest point on the island with an unobstructed view in all directions.

The flag pole covers an area of 176.42m2 with a total investment of nearly VND 2 billion. The construction is scheduled to be carried out from June – August of 2015.

The flag pole on Hon La Island is a significant project of Quang Binh youths in particular and the nation’s youths in general, aiming at affirming the fatherland’s sovereignty on sea. The project also intends to express the young generation’s love to the motherland, sea and islands and improve awareness and responsibility of the youths in building and protecting the fatherland.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee speaks at the inauguration ceremony

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of provincial leader, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee sincerely thanked the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee and the Vietnam Association of Students for construction of a sovereignty flag pole on Hon La Island. He also highly appreciated the great efforts made by Quang Binh youths in preparation for the inauguration ceremony.

Vice Chairman expressed his hope that in the coming time, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee, the Vietnam Association of Students and BIDV would create favorable conditions for the project to complete as scheduled.
