103 kachnar trees planted at General Vo Nguyen Giap's tomb

Planting bauhinia variegata or hoa ban trang at the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap
The event was jointly organised by two provinces of Quang Binh and Dien Bien in tribute of General Vo Nguyen Giap on September 13.
The kachnar tree, scientifically known as Bauhinia variegata and called hoa ban trang in Vietnamese, had a close connection with the Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954 that was led by General Giap.
These kachnar trees were carefully selected from mountainous region of Dien Bien province and brought to the general's home state in Quang Binh province, to plant at the site, together with Quang Binh officials and the general's family members.
This is a meaningful activity to express the deep gratitude of the Party Committee and people in the northern locality in general and Dien Bien province in particular to the General.
In addition to the attempt to plant greenery around the general's final resting place, the trees honoured his great contribution to the 1954 victory. The 103 trees symbolise the genral's age at the time of his death.

On behalf of the provincial leader, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee sent his thanks to the Party Committee and people of Dien Bien province for planting kachnar trees at the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap, affirming that this meaning acitivity is not only create landscapes at the site, but also help to educate young generations to uphold the national tradition “When drinking water, remember its source”.
