Workshop of report on results of value chain opportunity study - SRDP Quang Binh

(Quang Binh Website) - The Provincial People's Committee on June 18 held a workshop of report on results of value chain opportunity study - SRDP Quang Binh. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Van Tuan, Head of the Steering Board of SRDP project presided over the workshop.

SRDP project (Sustainable Rural Development for the Poor Project in Quang Binh province) is implemented in accordance with the Financing Agreement between Government of Socialist Republic of Vietnam and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) signed on 27/11/2013 at Rome, Italia.

The project's objective is to invest in climate smart, socially equitable and profitable rural development models that promote pro-poor market linkages, value chains and enhanced rural business competitiveness, sustainably improve income and reduce vulnerability of rural poor households in targeted upland areas of Quang Binh.
SRDP project is carried out in 40 difficult communes of six districts of Le Thuy, Quang Ninh, Bo Trach, Quang Trach, Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa, and Ba Don town.

The project is designed in 4 components, including: Market-led Development Planning; Rural Financial Services; Market and value chain investment; and Project management.

In the past time, the Project Management Unit of SRDP Quang Binh and the international consulting group have carried out a survey, set up a report and organized 40 commune-level workshops, 6 district-level workshops and a provincial-level workshop.

At the workshop, representative of the international consulting group reported on results of selected value chains, including cows, chickens, acacia, peanut, rice, maize, bee's honney, and knitted rattan and bamboo, and presented new value chains in Quang Binh.

Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the efforts made by the Project Management Unit of SRDP Quang Binh, the consulting group, relevant agencies, units and localities in preparation for implementing the project in the past time, stressing that this is an important workshop, orienting and creating premise for activities of the project during five years. Therefore, the Project Management Unit of SRDP Quang Binh and the consulting group should study opportunities of potentially viable pro-poor value chains in Quang Binh province, contributing to socio-economic development of the locality in the project area.
