Continue promoting infrastructure synchronization in Cha Lo Border Gate Economic Zone

 (Quang Binh Portal) – The Cha Lo Border Gate Economic Zone (EZ) was established pursuant to Decision No.137/2002/QD-TTg dated October 15th, 2002 by the Prime Minister. With a total area of natural land of 539.23 km2, the Cha Lo EZ has an important position to the security and national defence, is an economic center and a western urban area of the province, a hub for transportation and import-export of commodities and services of Quang Binh province to Laos, Thailand, etc.
 Defining the importance of the Cha Lo Border Gate EZ, after being established and put into operation, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People’s Committee have directed the Management Board of the EZs in coordination with the Minh Hoa district People’s Committee to build up the master plan for Cha Lo Border Gate EZ, including central area of Cha Lo International Border Gate, Bai Dinh area, commercial complex of bonded warehouse at Bai Dinh area, trade and service area in the National Road 12A, etc.

Besides, technical infrastructures have gradually been developed, attracting many investment projects, contributing to promoting the shifting of economic structure, solving jobs and increasing budget revenues for the province. Some essential facilities have been given a priority to construction, including site leveling, traffic roads, irrigational works, parking area, interdisciplinary head office at the border gate, etc.

In particular, the Cha Lo Border Gate EZ is one of nine main border gate economic zones across the country that are given an investment priority from source of State budget for the 2016-2020 period, contributing to creating favorable conditions to improve infrastructure at the border gate area, ensuring national defence – security, promoting socio-economic development for the province’s western region in general and building new rural areas in the six communes under the Cha Lo Border Gate EZ in particular. So far, about 20 infrastructure investment projects have been completed and being implemented with a total investment of approximately 1,000 billion dongs.

Besides, the Provincial People’s Committee has strengthened investment promotion activities such as propaganda, popularization and building of data base and updating information on preferential investment policies, demands of investment in the border gate economic zone, aiming to introduce and promote potential, strengths and administrative procedures relating to project investment in the border gate economic zone.

At present, 14 projects with a total investment of 605 billion dongs are carried out and registered investment in the Cha Lo Border Gate EZ. Once being operational, the projects will help improve business effectiveness, make a positive change in investment promotion and labor attraction such as: the Trade and Service Center of the Viet – Hung Trade and Service Company; the General Trade Center of the Hoang Tin Trade and Service Company; the Logistic system development project of the Linfox Logistic Vietnam Limited Company; the bonded warehouse of the Duc Toan Limited Company, etc.

In the past time, import-export activity via Cha Lo Border Gate EZ has developed, helping promote tourism, services and economic growth of the province. Total turnover from import-export, transit and non-trade activities in the 2013-2016 period achieved approximately USD7,171 million, including USD397 million for export and USD6,774 million for import, transit and non-trade.

Some main import-export products via the border gate include diverse woods, gypsum, fruits, agricultural products, minerals, garments, plastic products, electronics, building materials. The number of people for entry achieved 1,853,000, vehicles for exit and entry reached 413,000. Total import-export commodities reached 7,676,000 tons. Total State budget revenues via the Cha Lo Border Gate EZ reached VND657 billion.

In the 2016-2020 period, in order to promote comprehensive development for the Cha Lo Border Gate EZ, the province will newly invest some important infrastructure projects such as an administrative office and national border gate, infrastructures for non-tariff zone and service sites, Khe Ve Trade and Service Industrial Park, water supply plant, internal roads..., contributing to promoting development of the Cha Lo Border Gate EZ and well implementing industrialization and modernization in the province.
