Be overwhelmed by the magnificence of nature and be able to see the stars and the Milky Way from the Kong sinkhole
With diverse terrain, Quang Binh offers visitors a dramatic journey of discovery, from Kong's "Death Sinkhole" to the primeval green forest - where nature blends with human courage.
Go beyond your limits
One of the most popular adventure activities in Quang Binh is the journey to explore the Kong sinkhole – a place known as the “sinkhole of death”. This sinkhole is located deep in the Phong Nha – Ke Bang primeval forest, with a depth of up to 450m, and only the bravest people dare to face the challenge of rappelling from the top of the hole to the bottom of the abyss.
In 1997, with the help of local people, a group of members of the British Cave Research Association (BCRA) – explored a cave system with three large caves in succession: Tiger Cave, Over Cave and Pygmy Cave. A large sinkhole appeared in the cave system and is now called the “Kong Sinkholes”.
Kong’s “death sinkhole” has a mysterious and stunning beauty. There are currently two ways to enter the sinkhole that visitors can choose from: Swimming through Dai A cave or swinging down from the mouth of the hole on low cliffs.
With a height of up to 450m from the highest peak to the bottom, Kong has become one of the deepest sinkholes on the planet with a mysterious underground river and primeval forest inside. The reason this sinkhole is named Kong is because the shape seen from above looks very similar to the giant head of the monkey character King Kong in the famous blockbuster movie of the same name.

With their unique structures, these caves take visitors on exciting journeys of discovery. Climbing over steep cliffs, crossing underground streams, or swimming in the caves are unforgettable experiences.
Leaving the sinkhole, the journey continues to take visitors into the lush Phong Nha primeval forest, known as the “lungs” of Quang Binh. The forest here is a natural treasure with a diverse ecosystem and pristine landscape. With each step through the trails, visitors feel like they are lost in a world fairy tale, where the sound of the stream flows along with the chirping of birds, and the green canopy of the forest covers the entire path.
Especially, when night falls, visitors have the opportunity to camp in the wild, feel the fresh air and listen to the wind rustling through the forest canopy. Camping nights in the deep forest, surrounded by only the flickering fire and the starry sky, are a time for each person to immerse themselves in nature, forgetting all the worries of daily life.

Adventure tourism is increasingly attracting many tourists, although the cost is often higher than other tours. With the complex terrain of mountains and rivers in Vietnam, organizing adventure tourism requires carefulness to ensure safety and proper investment to attract domestic and international tourists.
The Son Doong Cave exploration tour is the most expensive, at around $3.000 per person, and usually requires booking well in advance. An expert from Oxalis, the only company operating this tour, said: “Safety is always the top priority. The tour guides are all professionally trained and regularly tested.”
