A final workshop to wrap up project of creating equal opportunities for the inclusive development for youths and ethnic minority persons with disabilities

 (Quang Binh Portal) - On January 16, the Provincial Association for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities held a meeting to wrap up the project of creating equal opportunities for the inclusive development for youths and ethnic minority persons with disabilities in 2017 and deploy its tasks for 2018. Vice Chairman of the provincial People"s Committee Nguyen Tien Hoang attended the meeting.

In 2017, the project of creating equal opportunities for the inclusive development for youths and ethnic minority persons with disabilities funded by the Irish Aid Agency under the Embassy of Ireland in Hanoi was carried out in eight districts, town and city and three communes of Trong Hoa, Hoa Son and Thuong Hoa.

The project aimed to promote social integration of youths with disabilities through supporting economic opportunities, create an inspiration for persons with disabilities to express their passions, enhance the self-confidence and self-reliance in their life; strengthen equal opportunities for ethnic minority persons with disabilities, helping them learn about the rights and responsibility of persons with disabilities.

In addition, the project established eight clubs for persons with disabilities in the districts, town and city; supported 18 initiatives in economic development and four groups of livelihood models for youths with disabilities; opened a training course on functional rehabilitation for 58 youths with disabilities and their relatives.

Besides, the project also trained for 88 ethnic minority persons with disabilities on veterinary breeding techniques, business management and living skills; 157 local cadres and persons with disabilities on laws of persons with disabilities and policies relating to persons with disabilities; organized many dialogues on employment between persons with disabilities and enterprises, etc.

In 2018, the Irish Aid Agency under the Embassy of Ireland in Hanoi will support for implementation of the project on enhancing capacity for youths and ethnic minority persons with disabilities in socio-economic development towards the sustainablity and adaptation to climate changes.

The project aims to improve economic conditions for youths and ethnic minority persons with disabilities; enhance the capacity for youths and ethnic minority persons with disabilities to help them raise the awareness, thoughts and behaviors to respond to social changes.

It will also contribute to improving ability for cadres and persons with disabilities on community-based disaster risk reduction.

The project's duration will be carried out in 2019.

In order to complete the targets, the project will open 10 training courses on community-based disaster risk management and 10 couses on emergency aids for 500 local cadres and persons with disabilities; provide with 10 sets of early warning equipment and 10 sets of rescue equipment; newly build and repair 10 houses for persons with disabilities using the disaster resistant construction techniques, etc.

Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed the importance of the project "Creating equal opportunities for the inclusive development for youths and ethnic minority persons with disabilities" and highly evaluated its obtained results in 2017, helping persons with disabilities develop economy and integrate into the society.

In the forthcoming time, Vice Chairman asked local authorities to closely coordinate with related units during the process of implementing the project; strengthen work of propaganda to enhance awareness of disaster risk reduction and community-based disaster risk management.
