Flight VJ7173 took off from Taipei International Airport at 16:40 and landed at Dong Hoi Airport at 19:40 (local time) with 38 passengers on board. At Dong Hoi Airport, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, welcomed the passengers and crew with flowers. On the same day, flight VJ7172, carrying 90 passengers, also departed from Dong Hoi at 12:40 and arrived in Taipei at 15:40.

The launch of the Dong Hoi - Taipei international route holds significant importance for expanding Quang Binh’s aviation network, especially following the designation of Dong Hoi Airport as one of three domestic airports in Vietnam authorized for foreign entry and exit with electronic visas (E-Visas), as per Government Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP issued on August 14, 2023 on the application of electronic visas for citizens of countries and territories; international border gates allowing foreigners to enter and exit with electronic visas.

Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam approved VietJet Air to operate the Dong Hoi - Taipei - Dong Hoi international route. It is planned that from March 31 to October 13, 2025, a total of 26 flights (13 round-trip journeys) will be operated using Airbus A320/A321 aircraft under flight numbers VJ7172 (Dong Hoi - Taipei) and VJ7173 (Taipei - Dong Hoi). VietJet Air estimates an average of 80 passengers per flight.

The Dong Hoi - Taipei flight is the first international charter flight operated at Dong Hoi Airport and the first international flight to be reopened after the Dong Hoi - Chiang Mai (Thailand) route.

The opening of new route not only facilitate travel for Taiwanese visitors but also serving as a significant opportunity to promote local tourism to international markets, while promoting the expansion of more international flights in the future.

Additionally, the Dong Hoi - Hanoi route is scheduled to resume operations on April 24, 2025, further enhancing transportation, tourism, and trade connectivity for Quang Binh.
