Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam Holds a Courtesy Meeting with Delegation of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, U.S. Department of State
On the afternoon of May 14, 2026, the Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) held a reception and working session with a delegation from the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, U.S. Department of State, led by Mr. Ethan Rinks, Program Manager, Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement, U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. The courtesy meeting was chaired by Permanent Vice Chairman of the PPC Hoang Nam, with the participation of representatives from relevant departments, agencies, and units.

Overview of the courtesy meeting
At the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam provided an overview of the contamination caused by post-war unexploded ordnance (UXO) and the results of mine action activities implemented in the province. Accordingly, Quang Tri Province remains the locality most heavily affected by post-war UXO contamination nationwide, with approximately 620,000 hectares of contaminated land, significantly impacting people’s lives and socio-economic development. Over the years, the province has synchronously implemented numerous measures to effectively manage and coordinate mine action activities; issued the Provincial Mine Action Program for the period 2026-2035, aiming to make Quang Tri the first province in the country to become safe from UXO contamination by 2035.

Permanent Vice Chairman Hoang Nam also acknowledged and highly appreciated the active support of the U.S. Government through f-NGOs such as MAG, NPA, PeaceTrees Vietnam, and CRS in implementing projects on UXO survey and clearance, mine risk education, and support for affected communities.

Looking ahead, Permanent Vice Chairman Hoang Nam expressed his hope to continue receiving the support and partnership of the U.S. Government in humanitarian programs, livelihood development assistance, construction of essential infrastructure, green economic development, climate change adaptation, and the promotion of international cooperation for the sustainable development of Quang Tri Province, especially in supporting post-war mine action projects.

Mr. Ethan Rinks expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended by the province during the delegation’s visit and working trip to Quang Tri. He also affirmed the commitment to continue transforming the language of political reconciliation into concrete actions for the benefit of the people, especially those affected by the consequences and legacies of past wars.
