Overall wrap-up meeting on implementation of Coastal Cities Environmental and Sanitation Project

(Quang Binh Website) - An overall wrap-up meeting was held in Dong Hoi city on December 01 to evaluate the implementation of the Environmental and Sanitation Project in coastal cities of Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh) and Dong Hoi (Quang Binh).

Attending the meeting was Permanent Vice-chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Xuan Quang; Deputy Director of Department of Infrastructure and Urban Centers Pham Quoc Tuan; Project Director Le Duy Hung; provincial leaders and the project management board of two provinces of Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh together with representatives of related departments and branches.

The Environmental and Sanitation Project in coastal cities has been carried out since June of 2007 with a total investment of US$251 million which is financed by the World Bank.

The project consists of six components, namely construction of drainage system, flood control and sewage collection; construction of waste water treatment plants; equipment supply for solid waste management; investment in infrastructures for resettlement in cities under the project; establishment of the revolving fund to improve sanitation in households and schools; technical support for project implementation.

So far, the project in Dong Hoi city has completed 35% of the volume of work and reimbursed 33% of funded capital; Quy Nhon has carried out 30% and reimbursed 25%; Nha Trang has carried out 25% and reimbursed 21%.

At the meeting, delegates spent much time to discuss on environmental safety, social security, bidding, buying and financial management in order to improve the quality of the project in the next time.

Addressing the meeting, PPC Permanent Vice-chairman highly valued the assistance of WB and central ministers and agencies in implementing the environmental sanitation project in coastal cities and stressed the effectiveness of the project to urban development of cities in general and Dong Hoi in particular.

Localities should strictly evaluate obtained results for the project’s first phase to continue effectively implementing its second phase according to the targets set by the project, vice-chairman stressed.
