At the meeting, the delegates focused on discussion and contributed the ideas to the situation of the province's socio-economic development in May and in the first 5 months, to capital construction investment, promotion and attraction of investment capital, administrative reform and so on. According to the report of the Department of Planning and Investment, industrial production value in the first 5 months of 2008 increased 20.4% compared with the same period. Some industries had high growth rate such as: beer, cement, clinker and ceramic tiles. Regarding the winter-spring paddy cultivation this year, the total rice cultivated areas for the whole province were estimated at 20,000 ha. The productivity was estimated achieving 50.1 quintal/ha, decreasing by 2.5 quintal/ha against the winter-spring rice cultivation last year. At present, the farmers are focusing on harvest and preparation for sowing summer-autumn rice. Livestock feeding has gradually been recovered and grown. As compared with same period last year, the herd of buffaloes was estimated increasing by 1.1%, cows by 2.1% and pigs by 1.7%. The total fishery production in the first 5 months rose by 1.5% against the same period and achieved 38.3% of the plan. A lot of changes have been seen in investment promotion. So far, the total investment projects have been 45 projects with total registered capital of VND 9,300 billion. The value of main export commodities raised export turnover in the first 5 months, achieved US$18.9 million, in which rubber exported 6,172.4 tonnes, achieved US$15.5 million, accounted for 82% of total export turnover. Besides, some commodities decreased export turnover compared with same period, concretely: titan reduced by 60.2%, saw wood by 63.6%. Total retail sales and services in the first 5 months increased by 30.8% against the same period.

Regarding activities in culture, society, health, education, science and technology, inspection and denouncement have continuously been implemented as the scheduled plan and program. National defense and security have been upheld.

Closing the meeting, Chairman Phan Lam Phuong asked the departments, localities and enterprises to check the implementation in the first 5 months of 2008 to accelerate the speed of implementation in June and the following months. Continuously intensify export activities and budget receipts in the whole province; strengthen management of spending from State budget and thrift practice; promote administrative reform, pay much attention to improving the quality and efficiency of the "one-door" mechanism, actively fight against corruption and wastefulness. Quickly complete the preparation for the 5th anniversary of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park recognized as a World Natural Heritage. Concurrently, Chairman also asked the departments to pay attention to promoting reimbursement of key projects and deploy measures to cure and minimize traffic accident, prevent and eliminate social evils.
