Provincial People's Committee held October regular meeting 2008

(Quang Binh Website) - In the morning of November 12 2008, the Provincial People's Committee held October regular meeting 2008, chaired by Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Lam Phuong. Attending the meeting were Vices-chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee and leaders of province-level departments and branches.

The meeting spent much time to discuss and evaluate the province's socio-economic development situation in the past ten months and propose some targets and plan for 2009. Over the past ten months, inflation situation has initially been curbed, industry up to 21.6% (yearly plan of 20-21%); agro, forestry and fishery production up to 5.26% (the plan of 5-5.5%); services achieved 21.1% (the plan of 12.5-13.0%); export turnover achieved US$62.9 million, reached 114.4% of the plan. Investment promotion has seen great leaps. 125 projects have so far registered investment with the total invested capital of VND25.620 billion; in 2008 alone, 36 projects have been issued Certificate of Investment with the total invested capital of VND7,308 billion. Some big projects have been operational, such as Dong Hoi airport, Hon La port for the first phase which was handed over to the Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation (PetroVietnam) for management and exploitation. This was considered as a great leap to promote the province's economic development.

At the meeting, most of delegates basically agreed on draft report, but some items of the report should be adjusted. It is necessary to reduce interest rate to create favorable condition for small and medium-sized enterprises to stabilize production and business; promote application of information technology in State management; improve State management ability for the leaders at commune and ward levels.

Giving a closing speech, Chairman Phan Lam Phuong agreed with the ideas of departments and branches on adjusting draft report. He asked related departments and branches to continuously strengthen solutions to curb inflation according to the Government's policy; focus on striving to achieve sustainable economic growth rate; further investment promotion; give specific policies and plan to instruct development of cultivation and breeding for the ethnic minority people and strengthen poverty alleviation in the provincial area.
