Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony of UXO and Landmine Clearance Project

(Quang Binh Website) - On June 3, the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony of UXO and Landmine Clearance Project (phase IV 2012-2014) between Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee (PPC) was held in the Office of Provincial People's Committee.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyen Dang, Vice-chairman of PPC; Mr. Dougal Freeman, Director of Finance, MAG UK; Mrs. Hannah Bryce, Programme manager, MAG Vietnam; Mr. Tony Fernandes, Technical Manager, MAG Vietnam; Mr. Tim Liston, Officer of UK embassy in Hanoi and representative of related agencies.

Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony of UXO and Landmine Clearance Project (Phase IV 2012-2014)

After nearly ten years of operation in Quang Binh, UXO and Landmine Clearance Project (MAG project), funded by UK Mines Advisory Group (MAG), has achieved remarkable results. The project collected and cleared mines in 115 communes of six districts and city with more than 300,000 mines and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) discovered and cleared; carried out UXO and Landmine Clearance in Phu Thuy resettlement area and more than 200 hectares of land for building social welfare projects.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice-chairman of PPC highly appreciated the assistance of the MAG for implementing the UXO and Landmine Clearance Project in Quang Binh. Vice-chairman stressed that Quang Binh would create favorable conditions for the MAG to carry out the Project on UXO and Landmine Clearance in Quang Binh and he also expressed his hope that the MAG would continue to call upon sources of support for the project to help localities discover and clear mines and unexploded ordnance, contributing to resuming their life and developing economy.
