US$180 million for natural disaster management
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a project on natural disaster management, with total investment of some US$180 million, including a US $150-million loan from the World Bank.
The overall objective of the project is to assist the implementation of Vietnam’s strategy on natural disaster mitigation and prevention by 2020.
The project will improve capacity of preventing, coping with, recovering and minimizing human and property losses caused by natural disasters in central coastal localities of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Da Nang, Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan.
The 5-component project, which will be implemented from 2012-2017, is expected to improve weather forecast and early warning systems and provide technical equipment for observation and surveillance networks.
