Second border marker between Vietnam and Lao inaugurated
It is the first of 61 border markers needed along the 170 km-long Quang Binh section and the second along the Vietnam-Laos border under a joint plan to strengthen the two countries’ border marker system from 2008-2014.
The first border marker was planted in Lao Bao district, Quang Tri province bordering with Savanakhet province of Laos.
The freshly-inaugurated border marker, 1.6 m high and 0.9 m wide, was built of marble at a cost of more than VND2 billion and pinned with the national emblems of Vietnam and Laos.
At the inauguration ceremony, leaders from the two provinces shared the view that the event was evidence of the special solidarity, friendship and long-term cooperation between the two countries.
They pledged to join hands in defending the joint border marker system and to turn the border section along the two sister provinces into the one of peace and friendship.
