The REDD+ kicked off in Quang Binh

(Quang Binh Website) - The Provincial People's Committee on September 18 had a working session with the GIZ delegation on researching the implementation of the REDD+ in Quang Binh. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Van Tuan presided over the meeting.

On June 27, 2012, Prime Minister approved the National Action Programme on “Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, Sustainable Management of Forests, Conservation of Forests and Enhancement of Forest Carbon Stocks” (hereafter as REDD+ Programme) in the period 2011-2020 under the Decision 799/QD-TTg.
The goal of the REDD+ Programme is to contribute to the successful implementation of the National Climate Change Strategy and the poverty reduction goals towards sustainable development.
 
Quang Binh is selected as a pilot province to carry out the REDD+ project which is funded by the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) - the World Bank.
REDD+ project includes five main activities such as reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, enhancement of forest carbon stocks, conservation of forests and sustainable management of forests.
 
At the meeting, a representative of GIZ delegation reported some activities of the REDD+ project which is being implemented in Vietnam and results of a recent survey on conditions to join in the REDD+ project of Quang Binh province, and proposed the initial steps to prepare for implementation of the project in Quang Binh.
 
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Van Tuan highly appreciated obtained results of GIZ delegation and pledged that the province will closely coordinate with GIZ to implement the REDD+ project, contributing to bringing Quang Binh to become the first province in Vietnam to maintain and successfully realize the provincial-level strategy of the REDD+.
