A scholarship granting ceremony was held by the Rencontres du Vietnam (Meeting Vietnam) organization in cooperation with the provincial People’s Committee in Dong Hoi city of Quang Binh province on August 27th.

The ceremony was attended by French Professor Odon Vallet from Sorbonne University in Paris, who established the fund; Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Ngoc, President of the Association for Support of Vietnamese Children (AEVN) in France and representatives of provincial authorities and relative agencies together with outstanding students in the region.

In the 2013-2014 academic year, 272 Odon Vallet scholarships were granted to outstanding students in three central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh.

Among the scholarships, 192 scholarships were presented to excellent students in Quang Binh (including 20 scholarships to students at university and in college, and 172 to secondary school students). Meanwhile, students in Ha Tinh and Quang Tri provinces each received 40 scholarships.

Students at university and in college received 10 million VND each, while secondary school students were given 6 million VND.

These scholarhips are not only a material support, but also a great encouragement to outstanding students in three central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh in particular, and provinces and cities across the country in general.

This is also a good deep, expressing the affection and kindness of Professor Odon Vallet, Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Van, Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Ngoc and the Rencontres du Vietnam (Meeting Vietnam) organization to encourage poor and outstanding students in their study.

Over the past 14 years, French Prof. Odon Vallet has spent all his own money on scholarships for poor and outstanding pupils and students in France and Vietnam to encourage them to pursue their study.

He will be touring Vietnam from August 23 to September 7 to present the scholarships to the beneficiaries.

Since its establishment in 2001, the fund has awarded more than 22,000 scholarships worth over 120 billion VND to students nationwide.

In 2014, the fund is expected to grant over 2,250 scholarships worth nearly 20 billion VND to students throughout Vietnam.
