Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Van Tuan and  leader of GIZ mission Hans Helmrich sign the Minutes of Understanding on the project progress review of the 2nd phase

From January 21st to 30th, 2013, a GIZ mission conducted an assessment of the formulation of the buffer zone development plan; the implementation of the sustainable tourism development plan; forest land use planning; livelihood models; trans-boundary cooperation on biodiversity conservation between Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park and Him Namno Biodiversity Conservation Area; and capacity development of REDD+ in the province.

At the meeting, all partner institutions also expressed their appreciation of GIZ model of delivery and service orientation. They expect continuation of support for the consolidation of achievements and further development of particular technical areas relevant for the implementation of the buffer zone development plan as a framework for balancing socio-economic development and biodiversity conservation in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park region.

In the forthcoming time, the project will focus on data management and monitoring biodiversity changes; continuation of development of livelihood models with a focus on non-agriculture land basted models; identification of roles, functions and responsibilities of the involved agencies; awareness raising and communication for the significance of the buffer zone development plan as the framework to address biodiversity conservation and human well-being; continuation of the recently initiated work on trans-boundary cooperation between Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park and Him Namno Biodiversity Conservation Area.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Van Tuan highly appreciated coordination of the provincial line agencies and the GIZ mission team in the project progress review of the 2nd phase. He also expressed his hope that the GIZ will continue to support ongoing processes in the province for REDD+ within the scope of the project.

Two sides discussed and agreed to sign the Minutes of Understanding on the Phong Nha - Ke Bang region project progress review of the 2nd phase.
