US$58.1 million for sustainable environment project in Dong Hoi

 (Quang Binh Portal) - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People"s Committee Nguyen Xuan Quang on September 14th received and worked with a delegation from the World Bank (WB) to prepare for the second-phase implementation of the environmental sanitation project in Dong Hoi city under the WB-funded sustainable environment project in the central coastal cities.

The project includes two phases. The first phase, carried out from 2007 to 2014, has six components with a total investment of US$78.5 million. The project, which completed in July of 2014, has contributed to promote sustainable socio-economic development for Dong Hoi city. The second phase is expected to conduct from 2017 to 2022 with four components, including sanitation infrastructures, environmental infrastructures, resettlement and site clearances, technical assistance and institutional reform. Total investment for the second-phase project is expected around US$58 million, of which US$50 million is from a preferential loan of WB and US$8 million is from corresponding capital of Vietnam.

Under the plan, WB will complete work of preparation in 2016 and sign a development credit agreement and financing agreement between WB and the Vietnam's government. The project will officially put into operation in June of 2017.

At the meeting, related sides discussed and put forwards ideas involved to environmental issues, resettlement, technique, institution and financial management.

Speaking at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee applauded WB for their working visit to Quang Binh province. He acknowledged the WB's assistance in the implementation of the project's first phase and work of preparation for its second phase.

On behalf of provincial leaders, Standing Vice Chairman hoped that WB's delegation would continue assistance for the province and accelerating the progress of surveys to quickly implement the project's second phase.
