Forestry sector in North Central region gradually affirms its position
A conference was held in Dong Hoi City, in the Central province of Quang Binh, on April 20 to review the 5-year implementation of the Secretariat’s Directive No.13-CT/TW, dated January 12, 2017, on strengthening the leadership of the Party in the management, protection and development of forests in the North Central region.

An overview of the conference
The event was jointly organised by the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee.
The North Central region consists of 6 provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue. The region has a population of more than 11.09 million people and an area of more than 51,400 square kilometres, accounting for 15.5% of the country's area.
The region has more than 3.1 million hectares of forest land with a coverage rate of 57.4% (accounting for more than 21.2% of the country's forest area). It is an area with a special strategic location in terms of economics, politics, society, national defence, security and foreign affairs.
Over the past 5 years, localities in the North Central Coast have actively implemented the Party's guidelines on forest management, protection, and development, especially Directive No.13-CT/TW, and achieved many important results, thus creating a strong change in awareness while raising the sense of responsibility of the whole political system and society.
Speaking at the conference, Politburo member, Head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission emphasised that besides the positive results achieved, the management, protection and development of forests in the North Central region still has limitations and problems that need to be overcome.
He urged delegates to the conference to focus on discussing and clarifying contents related to responsibilities of the Party Committees, authorities and heads of agencies, organisations, and localities in this work; improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management over forest protection and development; consolidating and strengthening the specialised state management agencies in charge of forestry in localities; supplementing and perfecting the legal system, mechanisms, and policies on forestry; reviewing, evaluating, and strictly controlling socio-economic development plannings and projects that have impacts on forest area and quality; and settling disputes and encroachment on forest land.
According to the organisers, the reports and speeches at the conference were collected to serve the preliminary work of the 5-year implementation of Directive No.13 nationwide.
