Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee visits some residential establishments in Phong Nha - Ke Bang area.

Currently, there is a variety of types of residential service business including hotels star ratings, guest houses and homestays in the area of Son Trach commune. At present, the whole commune has 110 residential establishments with the total of 1,053 rooms, consisting of 58 homestays, 52 hotels and guest houses. In the first 6 months of the year, the residential establishments here served over 113,800 visitors including nearly 41,000 international tourists. The turnover was estimated at VND 60 billion. The residential service business created jobs for more than 500 local workers.

However, in the past time, there was still the reality that some residential establishments offered lower room rates than the regulated price levels, this led to the reduction of service quality. The number of tourists was still low due to the shortage of shopping and entertainment areas. The community based tourism model was deployed spontaneously and lacks professtional and foreign language skills, etc.

After directly visiting some residential establishments in Phong Nha - Ke Bang area, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee highly appreciated their efforts in developing tourism services to meet the demand of domestic and foreign tourists to Phong Nha; he simultaneously noted that these residential establishments are forced to compete healthily; and continually improve the service quality and develop more types of new services. In addition, he also requested the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, the local authorities and police force closely coordinate in the process of managing tourism business activities and guaranteeing the security in the area; controlling service prices to ensure the healthy competition; developing some new and attractive tourism products to enrich tourism products in Phong Nha - Ke Bang area; strengthening the participation of the people in tourism activities, propagating and encouraging them to join in a healthy tourism community. In particular, Son Trach commune has just been recognized as a grade-V urban center and is going to be Phong Nha town in the near future; therefore, he asked the related local authorities, departments and agencies should pay attention to the regional planning; environmental issue, especially the treatment of domestic sewage and garbage; planting green trees, creating clean and beautiful scenery in tourism destinations, etc.
