Strengthen cooperation in trade and services between Quang Binh, Khammouane and Savannakhet

Import-export activities in Cha Lo Border Gate Economic Zone
According to the report of the Management Board of Provincial Economic Zones, import-export activities via Cha Lo Border Gate have strongly developed in the past years. Concretely, total value of import-export turnovers in the 2011-2015 period reached approximately US$6 billion, increased 30 times compared to the 2006-2010 period. In which, 2014 reached US$1.71 billion and 2015 is estimated to reach US$1.95 billion, increased by 14% compared to the same period last year.
The number of persons for exit and entry in the 2011-2015 period reached about 2.1 million, increased 4 times compared to the 2006-2010 period. The number of vehicles for exit and entry in the 2011-2015 period reached about 335,000, increased twofold against the 2006-2010 period. Total number of import-export goods in the 2011-2015 period reached about 8.2 million tons, increased nearly 9 times against the 2006-2010 period.
Total budget revenues via Cha Lo Border Gate in the 2011-2015 period reached about VND1,054 billion, increased nearly 4 times against the 2006-2010 period.
In order to achieve these results, border trade activities between Quang Binh and Khammouane, Savannakhet have been supported and created favorable conditions on policies by the Goverment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and related agencies. Especially, the Route 12A, which has been approved and added in the GMS Agreement, has facilitated for two-way goods transport from Thailand and Laos to Vietnam via the Cha Lo International Border Gate; the Route 20 has also come back into operation, creating favorable conditions for import-export activities via the Ca Roong - Noong Ma National Border Gate. The number of means and passengers in the Southeast Asia region and in the world for exit and entry via the Cha Lo International Border Gate has been increasing.
Besides, after being completed and put into use in November 2011, the Huu Nghi 3 bridge with 1.4km in length spanning Mekong River, linking Nakhon Phanom in the northeastern Thailand with Khammouane province in the central Laos, has facilitated to improve two-way turnovers and promote activities on trade, tourism and investment between three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
Cooperation in import-export activities between provincial enterprises with Laos provinces and the fields of production and business has been attached special importance, creating favorable conditions for enterprises to develop production and business.
Regarding trade promotion, Quang Binh has signed economic coperation with eight provinces of three countries of Vietnam - Laos and Thailand using the Route 8 and 12; regularly boosted friendship and cooperation with the provinces sharing borderlines; organized many annual meetings between senior delegates with two provinces of Khammouane and Savannakhet to review implementation and cooperation in the fields of economy - society and security - national defence. The departments and localities sharing borderlines have regularly exchanged to share experience, strengthen traditional relation and special friendship between Vietnam and Laos. Therefore, cooperative relation and border trade development between Quang Binh and Khammouane, Savannakhet together with some provinces of Laos have increasingly strengthened and developed, gradually falling in line with the trend of international economic integration of the whole country, region and world.
In the forthcoming time, Quang Binh will focus on development of border trade in the 2011-2020 period with trade and service projects, forming border market to help residents exchange goods more convenient; strengthening implementation of some policies to boost trade, promote investment between enterprises, creating favorable conditions to effectively exploit the National Road 12A, Road 20 and National Road 9B, Road 565 connecting Quang Binh and Savannakhet province (Laos) via the Chut Mut Lavon Border Gate.
Besides, the province will buid preferential policies for enterprises to strengthen investment and cooperation, develop production and business, especially, promoting cooperation in tourism development, an advantaged field of the province.
