Inauguration ceremony of Rao Da water reservoir

(Quang Binh Website) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee on May 24 jointly held an inauguration ceremony of the Rao Da water reservoir in Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province.

Attending the ceremony was Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council Luong Ngoc Binh; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Hoai; representatives of the MARD; members of the provincial Standing Committees and representatives of relevant agencies and localities.

The Rao Da water reservoir project, costing  VND347.8 billion which is mobilized from the Government bond, has the capacity of more than 83 million cubic metres. 

The reservoir includes a main dam, measuring 700m in length and 33m in height, with three auxiliary dams totalling 469m, plus flood mitigation and canal systems.

This is a multi-purpose project, aiming at solving and repairing situation of drought in Quang Ninh and Le Thuy districts, ensuring work of irrigation and supply of clean water for localities, upgrading ecological environment, developing tourism and creating the basis to effectively exploit labor potential, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty and promote economic development in localities and its surroundings.

Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee speaks at the ceremony

Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee appraised the efforts made by the Management Board and Irrigation Construction No.5 under the MARD, all relevant units, agencies and localities in early completing Rao Da water reservoir. Chairman Nguyen Huu Hoai stressed that the provincial People’s Committee wouldl assign the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the people’s committees of Quang Ninh and Le Thuy districts and relevant agencies and localities to use the project effectively, ensure the water supply for 6,000 hectares of rice paddy in the benefited areas, create positive changes in the output of food for Quang Ninh and Le Thuy, ensure the supply of clean water for people in Hien Ninh, Tan Ninh, An Ninh, Van Ninh and Xuan Ninh communes of Quang Ninh district and the Ang Son industrial complex; regulate irrigation water timely to reduce the impact of flood on the lowlands and increase the aquaculture area to create a sustainable ecological environment.
