On-line meeting to discuss ways to deal with flood consequences and counter the upcoming storm

According to initial statistical data, by 19:00 on October 17, severe floods had killed 5 people and left one missing in Quang Binh. Heavy rains submerged 80 communes under the floodwater, of which 12 communes were isolated with a total of 53,500 households flooded in the water.
At present, Quang Binh evacuates 10,626 households with 47,997 residents in districts of Quang Ninh, Tuyen Hoa, Minh Hoa, Bo Trach and Quang Trach to safer place; mobilises 30 canoes and other means together with 300 soldiers and 200 union members and youths to directly help and protect local people and their property to minimize any losses they may suffer.
At the teleconference, all delegates spent much time to discuss ways and means to deal with flood consequences and counter the upcoming storm to minimize any losses of people and property for local people.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked all localities nationwide to focus on overcoming flood consequences and countering the typhoon Megi. Deputy Prime Minister Hai also requested all localities to promptly prepare detailed plans to evacuate local people, especially those living at the river mouth and in coastal areas, once Megi arrives; provide food, drink and other necessaries to relieve local people; keep a close watch on flood situation to respond timely.
