US$30 million loans for urban infrastructure development in Dong Hoi

 (Quang Binh Portal) - According to information from the Office of the Provincial People"s Committee, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Lê Minh Hưng has recently signed a loan agreement from the Asia Development Bank (ADB) for the US$104 million project on developing the urban environment and infrastructure, in response to climate change, in Dong Hoi city, in the central province of Quang Binh and Hoi An ancient town in central Quang Nam province.

Under the loan agreement, ADB pledged to sponsor US$104 million, including US$100 million from the ordinary capital resources (ORC) and US$4 million from non-refundable aid. Of which, the project on developing the urban environment and infrastructure, in response to climate change, in Dong Hoi city is loaned US$30 million with a duration of 25.5 years. The project lasts from 2017 to 2023.

The project is intended to reduce environmental pollution, develop urban infrastructures to adapt to climate change in accordance with the policies and priority orientations of ADB.

The project includes some main components such as ecotourism development in Bao Ninh commune, integration of rain-water drainage and flood management and waste water management in the city.

Besides, the project aims to enhance awareness of the community, strengthen the ability for some provincial level departments, help localities minimise environmental pollution, improve urban environments and reduce impacts of climate change.

The project's governing body is the People's Committee of Quang Binh province, the executing body is the Management Board of the Dong Hoi city Urban Environment and Climate Change Adaptation Project.
