(Quang Binh Website) - On February 25, a jar of ancient bronze coins was unearthed in Loc Ninh commune, Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province.

According to Mr Tran Anh Tuan, Director of Quang Binh Museum, the brown terracotta jar was discovered in the house of Nguyen Thanh Hai when he was digging earth to build a foundation for his new house.

The 35cm-high jar contains 34 kilogrammes of the antique bronze coins, each with a diameter of 23-24 centimetres and a square hole in the centre.

All coins are rusty and have sophisticated carved patterns.

Initial studies shows that the coins had date back thousand years ago. Among seven coins discovered, five coins are believed to be from Bei Song dynasty in China dating back to the 10th – 11th centuries. Another one is from Chinese Ming dynasty (1402 – 1424). The remaining is a Vietnamese coin issued under the reign of King Le Thanh Tong (1460 – 1497) with clear and fine decorative pattern.
