(Quang Binh Website) - The Management Board of the Quang Binh Decentralisation Programme for Rural Poverty Reduction (DPPR) has held a meeting to evaluate its midterm work from 2006 to now.

Over three years of implementing in 48 communes in the whole province, the DPPR project has gained great achievements; its components have been basically carried out as scheduled. Concretely, as for component of capacity-building for decentralized development, the project has organized 241 workshops on method of management and experience in economic development for the people in the project area; opened 54 training courses on skills and professional knowledge. As for component of production support, the project has helped the people in the project area build 919 models for livestock development, 84 for aquaculture development and 286 for cultivation development; established 410 credit and savings groups. As for component of village infrastructure development, the project has implemented more than 60% of the plan, including 94 projects, of which 18 schools, 8 markets, 11 community cultural houses, 41 traffic projects and 15 irrigation works have been newly built. Under the plan, the Project will reimburse about 50% of the capital resource, reaching the midterm plan in the end of 2008.

The project has changed the face of the rural and mountainous areas, contributing to improving the spiritual and material life for the people, reducing the rate of poor households and promoting economic development of localities. However, the project has still faced many difficulties in the process of implementation, namely capacity of many cadres at commune and village levels has remained low, affecting to the progress of implementation and capital reimbursement of the projects, making a bad impression on investors.
