Receiving and working with the Prime Minister were Mr. Luong Ngoc Binh, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoai, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; members of the Standing Committees of the provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Fatherland Front Committee; representatives of provincial level departments and branches.
On behalf of provincial leaders, Chairman of provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Hoai reported situation of implementing the province's socio-economic development plan in 2010 and in the first eight months of 2011 to Prime Minister. Quang Binh recorded encouraging socio-economic development results in the first eight months of 2011 and strictly implementing the Government’s Resolution No. 11 on curbing inflation, stabilising the macro-economy and ensuring social security. The value of industrial production in the reviewed period rose 14.6 percent, export turnover soared 116 percent, the number of poor households dropped by 2.36 percent, and more than 17,360 new jobs have been created, he said.
Tourism development in the province has been boosted by opening more new tourist sites such as the Thien Duong (Paradise) Cave and the Chay-Hang Toi River and the number of tourists is growing.
So far, Quang Binh has cut VND87.4 billion from 55 ineffective projects that have been delayed or had their construction time extended, and provided more capital for urgent projects. It has also saved nearly VND23.8 billion (10 percent) of its regular spending.
Remarkable progress has been made in social fields: the number of poor households has been significantly sharply, secondary school education has reached 100 percent, and 71 percent of communes and wards now meet national standards for healthcare services.
The chairman also proposed the Government to help deal with capital shortages of several transport and power projects in the province.
Addressing the working session, PM Dung praised the province’s efforts to fulfill the socio-economic targets, especially economic restructuring.
With its great potential for developing forestry, agriculture and tourism, Quang Binh should apply advanced technology to increase agricultural productivity, develop its processing industry, and build the Gianh River Cement Industrial Park into the country’s largest cement producer, Mr Dung said.
He asked the provincial leaders to pay more attention to reducing poverty in a rapid and sustainable way and effectively perform social welfare policies and programmes to create new rural areas.
He underlined the need to re-examine all investment projects and carry them out properly in line with the country’s real demands.
Quang Binh should make the best of its strengths in terms of land, long coastline, convenient traffic system and Phong Nha-Ke Bang world natural heritage to develop agro-forestry production, construction materials and tourism services, he added.
