Provincial People’s Committee convened February regular meeting

According to a report presented by Minister of Planning and Investment, the economic growth rate in February has remained fair. The industrial production value in February was estimated to reach VND199 billion, up 20.8% against the same period; the output of aquatic products in February was 1,989 tons, of which the output of caught aquatic products was 1,628.2 tons, up 16.5% against the same period. In the first two months, the total retail sales of goods and services was estimated to reach VND1,140.9 billion, up 29.3% against the same period. The number of tourists to Quang Binh province was lower than the same period last year, estimated at 33,700 turns of people, of which the number of international tourists was 7,200 people, decreased by 3.5% against the same period. The total export turnover in February was lower than the same period, due to severe impacts of the global financial crisis, estimated to reach US$1.19 million, achieved 3.7% of the plan.
In February of 2009, all branches and localities mainly focused on capital reimbursement for 2008. Until January 31 2009, capital reimbursement for capital construction achieved 84.43%.

A lot of big changes have been seen in work of investment promotion. In the first two months, ten projects were newly invested. In February, the province also began construction of the Van Hoa Cement Plant with the capacity of 2 million tons a year, invested by the Vietnam Building Material Manufacture Company.

Concluding the meeting, Province Chairman Phan Lam Phuong stressed that in order to accelerate the province’s economic growth, in the short term, it is necessary to focus on dealing with difficulties for enterprises, further production and business, concurrently create favorable conditions for investors to begin construction of some new projects; speed up the progress of building some key projects, namely Quang Hai bridge, Chau Hoa bridge... Chairman asked the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to continuously direct the districts in strengthening preventive measures for pestilent insects and epidemic diseases. Especially, all localities should be paid much attention to forest protection, hunting and logging. The Department of Culture - Sport and Tourism should promote propaganda and popularization for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Ho Chi Minh Trail - the traditional day of Truong Son soldiers; the 20th anniversary of the province’s reestablishment, the 5th anniversary of Dong Hoi city recognized as a third-grade urban area...
