Tourists to Phong Nha - Ke Bang yearly increases by 24%
Phong Nha - Ke Bang is Vietnam's 5th heritage recognized by UNESCO in 2003. Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has a total area of about 200,000 ha with a cave system of more than 57km in length.
Especially, Phong Nha cave is known as one of the most beautiful sights with characteristics as follows the cave with the longest underground river, of the biggest height and width, with the longest sand ground therein and the most fascinating stalactite.
As from being recognized as a world natural heritage site to now (2003-2013), Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has welcome more than 4 million tourists. In 2012, its turnover achieved nearly VND120 billion and more than 3,000 local laborers were provided with stable jobs, according to the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Quang Binh.
The number of tourists to Phong Nha increases an average of 24% each year. In 2012, Thien Duong cave attracted nearly 256,000 visitors, of which there were around 4,300 international visitors. Phong Nha Tourism Center received 260,500 tourists, of which there were 10,626 international visitors.
Quang Binh province is expected to welcome 1.3 million visitors by 2015, of which about 37,000 international arrivals.
In order to attract tourists, Quang Binh province has recently opened a new tourist route of Sinh Ton (Survival) Valley - Hang Thuy Cung (Aquarium palace cave). With a total area of 2,000 ha, Sinh Ton Valley includes a range of calcareous mountains, caves, underground stream and primitive forest.
In order to develop in sustainable way, apart from forest protection and heritage conservation, Quang Binh province will promote development of community tourism, create friendly behaviors with tourists and improve income for locals.
Quang Binh province will organize a television program which will live broadcast on VTV1 and VTV4 channels to mark the 10th anniversary of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park recognized as a world natural heritage site and Quang Binh Cave Festival 2013 on May 25 in the inside of Thien Duong Cave.
This is a good opportunity for Quang Binh to spread the heritage, attract tourists and call upon the community to hand in hand preserve Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
